One Thing at a Time

Jan 15, 2025

Dear Listeners,

Morgan Wallen has stunned country music fans with the release of his  pop-country album One Thing At A Time.  This album contains 36 completely different and unique songs that offer a variety of listening experiences. For example, the songs “Ain’t That Some” and “Cowgirls” offer a fast paced and pop-like experience but the songs “Devil Don’t Know” and “Days That End In Why” offer a more slow and authentic country music experience. I am raving about this album because it is perfect if you are not yet into country music and want to ease into it or if you are already familiar with the genre and are looking for something to listen to.

The themes Wallen uses in this album change frequently from love, to sadness, to excitement, and more. They show many changes in his character and show hardsips. The most prominent theme though, is love and many of the songs in this album suggest he just went through a breakup. We can hear this in some of the opening lines to his song “Thinkin’ Bout Me” where he states “Probably tell him that I ain't been on your mind. How I ain't nothin' but a long gone thing. You can cuss my name, but baby, don't you lie. When you're tastin' what he's drinkin', are you thinkin' 'bout me?” this is hinting at the fact his ex got a new boyfriend, told him that she has lost touch with Wallen, but also can't stop thinking about him at the same time.

Many traditional country music fans are not happy with the way Wallen is changing the industry. Some say “He uses too much hip hop like pop beats in his songs,”  and “He is ruining the way country music is supposed to sound.” However, many of these critics are not familiar with pop and therefore are unsure of how it sounds. On the other side of the argument, some could say he is reeling in a larger audience. According to luminatedata.com Country music has seen a steady rise in popularity since Wallen started making music. An argument could also be made for Wallen's questionable decisions outside of music. For, he seems to get into a lot of legal troubles.

Wallen’s career is one that has required lots of perseverance. Soon after the release of his 2021 album Dangerous, he was temporarily suspended by both his record label and the CMA after being caught on video saying some bad things. He apologized after the incident and while this may cause some people to quit music altogether he kept going. In due time, most people forgave him and his music quickly became some of the best selling music of 2021. After that, he managed to get collaborations with Lil Durk and Moneybagg Yo. Wallen managed to overcome these hardships and eventually wrote this amazing album.

If I had written this album I would have changed a few things. Firstly, I would have made it a little shorter, maybe 20-25 songs because this album contains nearly 40 songs and is almost 2 hours long. Secondly, I would have it contain more happy lyrics instead of ones just about love and alcohol. Finally, I would make most of the songs about hardships everyone has to go through and can relate to and not just hardships Wallen has gone through.

One Thing At A Time  is a perfect pop-country music album for people who already enjoy country music and need something to listen to or people who want to familiarize themself with country music and don't know where to start. Some songs contain more pop-like beats while others are more like traditional country music. This album is worth raving about because of Wallen’s expert use of themes, how he is introducing more people to country music, and how he had to overcome many hardships in his life leading up to the creation of this album. Overall, I would give this album 4.5/5. microphones. In conclusion, One Thing At A Time Is one of the best pop-country music albums ever created and written by the best pop-country music star to ever walk the earth, Morgan Wallen.

Yours Truly,

Logan Adrian
