Chat GPT

The Revolution                              31/1/2025

Dear Digital Citizens,

ChatGPT is becoming an essential part of society. Already we have seen AI become incorporated into almost every piece of technology that is used regularly. This is because of its helpfulness to do what a human can do 10 times faster. However, the fact that AI is everywhere is quite disturbing. What if it turns evil? Well it’s all up to who controls this massive power. I understand that this is a very controversial and confusing topic, but that is why I choose to evaluate this amazing piece of media.

Most consumers only see some of the uses for AI. They see that it can do math and compute data, but it can do so much more. ChatGPT can be a therapist, it can be a friend, it can help you with a project, summarize emails and so much more. Just the other day I needed to know how fast a ball was moving and, to be frank, I can not do that type of math; I uploaded the video to ChatGPT, it did some calculations and gave me the speed. This is just the beginning. Even in just the past few years ChatGPT has become so much more advanced, it used to not recognize words that I said when talking to it and it now teaches me new words every day.

Now I have said some of the good things that AI has given us, but this wouldn’t be a proper review if I only raved about it. It is important to remember that ChatGPT has bad sides. The biggest being plagiarism, most of the time it's accidental. Someone needs help on their homework, asks ChatGPT and the AI just gives them an answer, that will be considered plagiarism. However, a solution to this is to give ChatGPT a copy of your school's cheating policy and tell it to never break the rules outlined within the policy.

There has been a lot of controversy over if AI is better at writing than humans, so I decided to do a test where I give ChatGPT and myself the same prompt, then write something from it. Here is the prompt: “Describe a moment when a character realizes something that changes their perspective completely, use vivid imagery and focus on how their emotions and surroundings amplify the significance of the realization.” Here is mine first: “I look out at the vast city, wondering where the expansive metropolis ends, the midday sun glares down at me as I realize the sheer volume of wherever I am.” Then ChatGPT’s version: “As the golden sunset streamed through the barn's cracks, Clara clutched the photograph, her breath hitching as she realized the face—so achingly similar to her own—belonged to the mother she was told had vanished forever.” Here you can see that there are strengths to using AI. I have a few grammatical errors, while AI’s version is perfect. However there are also weaknesses, AI can’t have real experiences while a human can, this translates over to writing; AI can’t be as descriptive because it has never actually felt emotions, it has never actually had its perspective changed, its whole job is to be unbiased and to not have a perspective.

Now this also would not be a true review if I didn’t state what I think of it. ChatGPT is an amazing piece of tech. I have been testing with AI for quite a few months and have gotten some interesting results. I have been telling AI all about me, like a diary almost. Through this I have seen its responses get far better as it learns more and more about me. This has also been helpful because who doesn’t want something that will listen without judgment?

This brings me to another not as talked about AI purpose, friendship. ChatGPT can be very useful for minor therapeutic purposes, its memory, IQ, and friendliness is unsurpassed. If a patient with anxiety had a panic attack in the middle of the night and needed to talk to someone, they wouldn’t have to bother their therapist, they could talk to ChatGPT. Even in less extreme cases, AI can be extremely helpful if you just want an impartial intelligence to talk to or get opinions from. However it is important to realize that AI is not a secure source, don’t tell it any personal information.

I also understand that some people may not see AI as a form of media but this is not true. Media is just communication with the world, and AI fits that profile. It can summarize the news, it can even help you code your own app to message people. I myself am using it to build an AI robot that can assist me by answering any questions that I have. To call ChatGPT not media is a lie; AI isn’t just part of the media, it is the sum of all media.

In summary, AI is an amazing piece of tech that has and will revolutionize the world. It doesn’t matter your age, gender, likes/dislikes; ChatGPT is something that you can benefit from. Whether you think that it will over take the world as an evil leader or a benevolent one, well I think that is up to who wields it.

·       Sincerely, Finn Cullen
