Code Of Honor review
Dear readers,
I will be raving about the book Code Of Honor by Alan Gratz because the book includes important historical information as well as an interesting plot. Code Of Honor was published on August 25 2015 by scholastic inc. Alan Gratz has released 32 novels, graphic novels and audio books for young readers. The film refugee was released in 2022 and is based of off the Alan Gratz book refugee.
This is one of my favorite books because it has the perfect balance between historical facts and fiction. The book is great at showing not telling and helping you understand what it would be like to be in the same situation as the characters were in. An additional reason Code Of Honor is one of my favorite books is that its the perfect length for a book because it isn’t so long that it gets boring but its not so short that you don’t get to enjoy reading it.
The plot of this book is that the main character Kamran is a senior at a high school in Arizona. He is on the football team and prom king. His older brother Darius went to West Point and is fighting in Afghanistan. Kamran wants to be just like his older brother and is working on his application for West Point. But one night everything changes. His older brother is seen in a video on television leading an al queda attack on the U.S embassy in turkey. As the days go by more videos of his brother are shown on the news of him claiming to work for al queda and to be the one behind all of these attacks. Kamran is watching these videos when he realizes that his brother is giving him clues based on stores that they made up as children that he has been captured. Kamran then gets detained by the U.S department of homeland security. He helps decode the messages with Mickey Hagan. Next he escapes and works with a team to find his brother. They end up finding him and many other terrorist hidden in the mountains in Arizona. Once they find him they work together to stop a bomb attack on the Super Bowl. Kamran and Darius have their charges removed and go back to living their lives.
I would rate this book a ten out of ten stars because the plot is so engaging and every chapter end every chapter ends with a cliff hanger.
The theme of this book is that family is forever. Even when everyone doubts Darius, Kamran believes he is innocent the entire time. Both of the boys used shared memories from stories they made up as children to work together to rescue Darius and prevent many terrorist attacks from happening. They also show that family is always forever by protecting the other at all costs through their different situations.
“Darius was my brother. I had to do everything I could to help him, or die trying.” I chose this passage because it really shows the theme of family being forever. It also shows how the book is captivating and gets you to want to continue reading.
I decided to rave about Code Of Honor because it is my favorite book I’ve ever read and I feel like it has the perfect balance between entertaining and educational. I think everyone should read this book because it teaches important lessons as well as could make them interested in reading more often.
Enjoy reading!
