Scorpion

What's The Best Drake Album?

Dear Readers,

Scorpion by Drake is the best Drake album ever. Not only is it his most streamed album ever, but it also contains the second most streamed Drake song ever. Drake's 2018 album has a range of songs from the haunting melodic tone in Survival to the loud bassy sound in Talk it Up featuring Jay Z. The album brings the listeners through a journey of so many different sounds and feelings.

The most streamed song on the album is God's Plan. God's Plan is also Drake's second most streamed song ever with 2.7 billion streams. God’s Plan is a great song, but not my favorite song on the album. In my opinion the best song is Emotionless which samples Mariah Carey's Emotion Club Remix to start the song. This part is what makes the song so good because of how the song transitions from the sample to the main beat of the song. The sampling does not stop there. In addition Sandra's Rose Drake samples Queen of Downs by the Giant Funk Band for a section in the beginning, middle and end of the song. There are so many more samples in this album that just bring it to the next level.

The record has three collaboration songs but one stands out from the rest, Don't Matter To Me featuring Michael Jackson. That's right the singing and hip hop legend is on one of the songs. If that does not convince you to give the album a listen I don't know what will. The song has a slow melodic tone that is therapeutic. Then comes Michael with his beautiful high voice counteracting the slow tempo but Drake found a way to make it sound so good. Although Michael passed away before the album came out it is thought that Drake and Michael recorded the track years before and Drake was just waiting for the right moment to release it.

There is poetry throughout the whole album but one of the most poetic lines is in Emotionless when Drake says “there’s times when I wish I was where I was back when I used to wish I was here.” What Drake is trying to say is that when he was a kid he wanted to be where he is now but now he wishes he was still a kid.

The album is not all good. There is one track that is horrendous and does not match the quality of all the other songs. Ratchet Happy Birthday where Drake constantly repeats the line, “It's your $%@! birthday, it's a $%@! celebration.” It sounds like Drake is performing at a birthday party. After repeating the same line 3 times it seems like he glitched out and could not finish his words and just said “it's your birrrrrrr-.” I think he realized how bad the song was and he quit mid recording.

. This album has its ups and its downs from Emotionless to Ratchet Happy Birthday but overall I would give this album a solid 9\10. I hope you will give the album a listen and go through the journey of all the songs.I think that you will enjoy it just as much as I do.

Sincerely

Mr Wilson
