Dear viewers,

ANYONE BUT YOU: REVIEW

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

From breakup to makeup and back again this power couple rocks it all. Netflix's “Anyone but You” gives us beautiful backdrops, great actors and incredible clothing. I do apologize, I am completely fan-girling about this five star movie. This rom-com features Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney, as they portray Ben and Bea in their love scandal. After being released on December 22, 2023, this drama has sold over 220+ million dollars in sales through the box office alone. It has also received a whopping 10.6 million views globally, equating to 18.3 million viewing hours and the numbers are still climbing. This movie shows what a true love story is, after Bea and Ben experience a perfect first date their relationship turns dark. When finding themselves in a pickle at a wedding they struggle to not ruin the party. To summarize, after watching this movie multiple times and introducing this rom-com to friends, I truly believe this movie deserves a five out of five stars.

Throughout this film we see a beautiful relationship but the views really take the cake. When the movie was being filmed, Will Gluck—the director of ‘Anyone but You’— told Forbes “Almost every time you shoot a movie in Sydney, you have to pretend it’s somewhere else and frame out the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. For “Anyone but You,” I thought, “Why do that?” We actually wrote this movie 100 percent for Sydney — very specific to the destination.” As Gluck continues, he talks about how they fit the city to the film. The city closed the Harbour Bridge and they filmed the iconic swimming scene in the harbour. I personally believe that this movie would not be the same if not filmed in Australia and many viewers do too. A study shows most viewers voted that the show belongs in Australia. The famous scene with Ben—Powell and Bea—Sweeney on a hike with the fam might as well be useless without Australia. This iconic scene highlights two of Australia's most famous animals. The graceful koala is distracting everyone else, as it should. I mean they are very cute. And a tarantula scaring the others. These animals define the scene and Australia. Ultimately, it's not everyday we come across films with landmarks as beautiful as the ones shown in “Anyone but You” but I’m all for it.

The acting in “Anyone but You” is nothing to overlook, in fact it should be highlighted. Netflix’s “Anyone but You” brings in a wide range of actors. From rising actors to known stars, I love it all. Our two main characters Ben, played by Glen Powell and Bea, played by Sydney Sweeney, are no actors to discount and their People’s Choice Award nominations prove it. Powell made his debut back in 2006 and has been acting ever since. You may know him from Twisters, Hidden Figures, or Hit Man. However, Sweeney is really the star of the show. Sweeney may be only 27 years old but she has made great use of her years. She is the face of many brands and stars in many shows and movies. Her acting in “Anyone but You” deserves a five out of five stars. She portrays her character beautifully through emotion and love. Although my personal favorite character is Leo, Sweeney deserves an Oscar. Leo is played by Dermot Mulroney and is 61 years old and has been in many shows and movies. He is my favorite character because of his humor. His catchphrase “Is that Tasmania” brings out his true personality showing how comical he really can be. Overall, the casting department of “Anyone but You” is nothing to forget about and did an amazing job casting excellent talent.

“Anyone but You” captivates the viewer with interactive features keeping us on our toes. The music team for “Anyone but You” surrounds the viewer with a catchy song everyone knows and loves leaving us singing along. “Unwritten,” written and sung by Natasha Bedingfield, echoes through all of the movie and brings a fun and free element to the experience. This pop song is featured multiple times throughout the film. This song shows lots of Ben's character development. For example, Ben claims this song as his ‘serenity song’ using it when flying to “keep calm.” Directors claim that “Unwritten” adds depth and humor to Ben’s personality. At the end of the film, ‘bloopers’ are shown with everyone singing the iconic song. “Unwritten” is such an important part to the plot of this film.

In conclusion, “Anyone but You” is a movie that will be cherished for years to come. From enemies to lovers, we see lots of character development ‘for better or for worse.’ This movie uncovers a beautiful lesson showing that true love can conquer all. When Ben and Bea have to fight for their passion for each other, you can feel the tension through the screen leaving all of us wishing we could experience the story for ourselves. Well, now we can get pretty close.
