A.P. Bio

A.P. Bio

Dear viewers,

If you’re looking for a 20-30 minute show that will make you laugh then A.P. Bio is the show for you. Starring Glenn Howerton as Jack Griffin, this show takes place in Toledo, Ohio at Whitlock High School. The A.P. Biology teacher doesn’t teach his students anything about biology but, Instead he tries to find romance, get his Harvard professor job back, and take down his nemesis Miles Leonard (played by Tom Bennett). Produced by Mike O. Brian this show is a must watch, so grab your popcorn and jump into a world of anything but biology.

A.P. Bio is also interesting in its history. The show had two seasons out when it was canceled, only to be brought back by Peacock. After season four it was canceled again, but it had a huge success on Netflix. Despite its initial low ratings, I truly believe that it is an incredible show. However, I would only recommend this TV show to people who are 13+ years old because it has some inappropriate content. This show is available to watch on Netflix and Peacock, included in a subscription, and is two dollars on Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango. The rest of this review does contain some spoilers to scenes in A.P. Bio.

In A.P. Bio, there are many different themes but, a couple themes stick around throughout the show. Firstly, the theme of always being yourself is present in almost every episode as the students as they try to navigate high school. Secondly, the theme of healing is shown by Jack as he tries to recover from his mom’s passing, his embarrassment from leaving Harvard, and his rival getting his dream job. These themes give the show its meaning.

A.P. Bio has amazing characters who bring out the comedy of the show. One of my favorite characters is a student named Grace (played by Sari Arambulo) who is cheerful, but really dark. In one episode Grace cheerfully explains how the ransom note she made has blood from her hamster. Another of my favorite characters is Heather (played by Allison Snyder) who is Mr. Griffin’s favorite student and is a bit dark. The best scene with her is when she is showing the class how to “dissect” a pig to impress Dan Decker, her crush. Dan Decker (played by Spence Moore II) is another one of my favorites. As Jack describes him, “That’s just Dan Decker. He is the coolest.” This show’s cast brings the show to life.

This show is one of a kind. My favorite scene of the whole show is at Heather’s house after school, where all of the students are hiding to perform an elaborate prank. The only thing they miss is that they accidentally let all of the people who were getting pranked in on the prank. They realize this when Victor, a student in Mr. Griffin’s class, asks, “Wait, if everyone was in on it and no one was getting pranked, then what are we even doing here?” This is the type of humor that the show offers to its viewers. If you have any interest in this show after my review, I recommend that you watch at least the first episode to see if it is right for you.  In my opinion, this show is incredible. Some may think it is an okay show or even a horrible one, but if you like comedy I think the show may be right for you.

Sincerely, Eloise M
