Mean Girls Musical

 Dear Watchers,

The Mean Girls Musical is the worst movie I have seen in years. It has good and bad actors, bad directors, ear bleeding music, and cringe choreography. It is about a girl who moves from Kenya to go to high school. She becomes popular and loses some of her best friends. Although the themes are good, the movie is the worst creation of 2024. Do not watch mean girls unless you like ear bleeding music and awful choreography.

The start of the movie is slow, boring , and it makes me want to turn it off right away. Additionally, they give spoilers in the first song, where they talk about how someone got hit by a bus. When Regina Goerge gets hit by a bus, it is the climax of the movie, but they gave it away at the beginning. The movie is way too long because each song lasts at least three minutes and there are about ten songs.

I have mixed feelings about the actors in the musical. Christopher Briney, winner of the Rising Star Award, from The Summer I Turned Pretty, and Daliland, has the part of Aaron Samuels and he plays him great. However, Angourie Rice, the actor of Cady Heron, is everything but great. Her voice is unpleasant, and her acting skills are bad. For example, in her singing and acting, she had little to none emotion. The actor of Cady in the original movie, Lindsey Lohan, played the part perfectly and Angourie Rice’s performance was a disgrace. The actor playing Regina Goerge did a great job with the part and she has a great voice. She won the Best Actress Performance in the Jimmy Awards which is commonly referred to as the Tonys for Teenagers. She showed so much emotion in the song Someone gets hurt and she showed how sad she was amazingly. Although I don’t like the movie, most of the actors are wonderful.

The director of the movie is Casey Nicholaw, who won a Tony award for best choreography. However, he rarely comes up with his own movie ideas, which is for the best. For example, he directed Elf The Musical, a show on Broadway, which is another movie that he copied and turned into a musical. The original Elf and Mean Girls are two of my favorite movies, but Casey Nicholaw is just a disgrace to the directors of both films. On the other hand, he choreographed Trolls, which has exceptional choreography.

The overall theme of the movie is to be kind. Although the theme comes across well, the theme is too basic. At the end of the movie, Cady is in a math competition when she realizes that judging gets you nowhere. Cady explains at the last scene in the movie, “Calling someone else fat won’t make you any skinnier. Calling someone stupid doesn’t make you any smarter.” This was a great way to tell this theme; however, this was also in the original, so they just copied the great work from the first movie.

The musical is more disappointing when you compare it to the original. The original movie is jam packed with great actors such as Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, and Jonathan Bennet. Mark Waters did an excellent job making this movie and the themes came across. The movie captured how high school can be a sad place; however, the sadness can not be shown in a musical. The musical is too happy when it is supposed to be sad.

Re-creations of great movies always end in disaster. The list of bad re-creations goes on forever: the new Space Jam, Home Sweet Home Alone, and Happy Gilmore Two. Directors have to stop making these dreadful sequels and come up with new ideas. On the other hand, there have been great sequels such as Austin Powers Two and Top Gun Maverick. The music in the Mean Girls Musical added absolutely nothing to the plot and all it did was make the movie longer. To conclude, If someone is going to recreate a movie that was already great, the new what has to be a work of art.

Sincerely,

Carter
