The Mystery of why “Murder Mystery” is so good.
Dear viewers,
Murder is always a mystery, and sometimes it’s a comedy starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Anniston. Kyle Newacheck, the director, and James Vanderbilt, the writer, had done a great job making “Murder Mystery” a great success. First, this movie had great success probably making millions but I could not find any exact numbers unfortunately but I know for sure that it made a lot because on Google it’s rated 4.1*. I also know it made a lot of money, because it made 120 million dollars just on its opening night in theaters, and on its debut on Netflix it made 278.1 million dollars globally . To add on, in 2019, when the movie came out, Adam Sandler had made 51 million dollars which was 25% more than what he would eventually make in 2020. This shows that the movie had made a decent amount of money.
The movie starts out when Nick Spitz, Adam Sandler, and Audrey Spitz, Jennifer Aniston, go on a vacation to Europe which Audrey has been wanting since their wedding night. They are broke, which shows a lot in the movie, and they are flying in economy and that’s when Audrey wanders into first class where she finds Charles Cavendish, Luke Evans, seated. They have a long talk, and then Charles invites the couple to his uncle's, Malcolm Quince,Terence stamp, yacht where his uncle will sign inheritance documents. Charles invited them to ruin his uncle's evening because his uncle married Charles’s ex-wife, so the couple happily accepted the great offer. The couple arrive at the yacht and mett everyone that is important to the uncle. They meet the ex wife, Suzi Nakamura, Shioli Katsuna,,; Grace Ballard, Gemma Arterton,; the Maharajah, Adeel Akhtar,; Colonel Ulenga, John Kani,; Juan Carlos, Louis Mendes,; Sergei, Olafur Olafsson, and finally Toby Quince, David Williams. The uncle makes a Grand entrance and when he’s about to sign all of his inheritance to Suzi, all the lights go off and then Malcom gets stabbed. Nick takes action because he’s a detective for the NYPD and tells everyone to go to their rooms. This is also where he says something very funny and Nick says to Wuang “…Radio interpole, tell them to meet us at the docks in Monaco. In the meantime I’m gonna check the shrimp out a little closer.” Then Wuang asks Nick “For the investigation?” And then Nick replies, “ No Wuang because I’m hungry as s**t. And for the rest of you, I would lock yourselves in your chambers or your yacht rooms because one of us … is a murderer. In the morning the police start investigating and tell Audrey and Nick that they are the number one suspects because it's very suspicious how a broke American couple find their way onto a superyacht where there was a murder of a billionaire. The policeman, inspector De La Croix, Danny boon, also found out that Nick wasn’t actually a detective, and that he failed a detective test 3 times, and that he had been lying to his wife the whole time that he was a detective.
This movie showed themes of comedy and mystery. Firstly, People were killed by an unknown murderer with a motive receive Malcolm's inheritance, this motive for money made Nick and Audrey suspicious and they pursued the real murderer to clear their name. Secondly, it was comical because Nick made many jokes to lighten the mood. To add on, he was very sarcastic at times which kind of annoyed Audrey.
In conclusion, you should give this movie a try, because I left out who the murderer was so that there would still be a mystery, or if you feel like a “Murder Mystery “, or just a comedy. I would personally give this movie 83\100 murders, so go watch it if you are 13 and up or just go watch it with your parents if you aren’t, because it is PG-13.
Kind regards,
Alexandros
